In January, we started a new weekly program, a Slovenian language conversation circle. With the circle of participants, we practice speaking speaking Slovenian with an experienced mentor. Since there is a lot of interest in this free program and the levels of language of our participants vary, we distributed the participants into 2 groups: beginners and intermediate.
The program is intended for foreign speakers of Slovenian language, who have already attended one of the official Slovenian language courses, but do not have enough opportunities to practice speaking Slovenian. Our participants confirmed at the initial meetings that they understand Slovenian well. They however, have difficulties in expressing themselves and forming sentences.
We invite the beginners (A1) to practice conversation in Slovene on Tuesdays from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Intermediate students who can communicate at the A2/B1 level are welcome to our circle on Wednesdays between 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM.
Beginners’ circle: Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Intermediates’ circle: Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
This week we met for the third time. The participants got to know each other better by now. The mentor prepared texts for reading aloud. While reading, we highlight unknown words and receive explanations. Our mentor also introduces the use of words in a different context in the Slovenian language. After reading, we looked at a few examples of illustrations, which we then described together. With that, we build vocabulary, as we search for synonyms and even cover a bit of grammar.

Practicing conversation takes place in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to consolidating our Slovenian, we also have the opportunity to have a sip of Turkish tea and enjoy a sweet treat. The participants are pleased with the program which is free of charge, and are looking forward to meeting again in the coming weeks.
