Cooking together: three cooking workshops in October
Three times a month, we gather in the kitchen at Društvo Medkulturni Dialog. In October we cooked on the 5th, 14th and 19th – each time with a different group and a different recipe.
Our cooking workshops are one of the loveliest ways for people to get to know each other. We chop, stir and taste together, and at the end we all sit down at the same table. Over food, conversation starts by itself, and recipes become stories about the places they come from.
Groups are small, with no more than eight participants, so there is plenty of time for questions, tasting and conversation. In October our recipes came from Turkish cuisine.
For friends, for neighbours and for new acquaintances
Every month we run three workshops, each for a different kind of group.
Private groups
For groups of friends who like to cook together. You bring your company; we take care of the recipe, the ingredients and the space.
Up to 8 peoplePublic groups
Open to individuals who sign up on their own. Participants are mostly from the local community and often meet for the first time at the table.
Up to 8 peoplePublic English-speaking groups
For anyone who would like to meet new people and learn new recipes. Participants mostly come from abroad, and the workshop runs in English.
Up to 8 peopleWhen we cook together, the conversation starts by itself.
Three workshops, three tables
Aşure – a dish made for sharing
Aşure, also known as Noah’s pudding, is a dessert of grains, pulses and dried fruit that is traditionally cooked in a large pot and shared with the neighbours. We topped it with pomegranate seeds and walnuts and served it with Turkish tea.
Çiğ köfte – shaped by hand
Çiğ köfte are spiced patties of fine bulgur, red pepper paste and spices, shaped by hand and served on lettuce leaves with parsley and lemon. First we chopped the vegetables, then we kneaded the mixture, and in the end the shared platter emptied quickly.
Soup for a shared table
This time the table was built around a homemade noodle soup, served with a chickpea dish and a fresh courgette salad. Simple recipes anyone can repeat at home, and enough time to really talk around the table.
Cook with us
Workshops run three times a month in groups of up to eight people. Write to us if you would like to join a public or English-speaking group, or book a date for your own group of friends.
Food cooked together tastes twice as good.
