Egyptian Cooking Workshop

On Friday, May 15, we organized an international cooking workshop in the kitchen of the Društvo medkulturni dialog office. The workshop was led by Selly from Egypt, who introduced participants to the traditional flavors of Egyptian cuisine.

This time, we prepared the traditional dish Fattet Shawarma and an Egyptian-style cinnamon-sugar glazed baklava dessert.

Fattet Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern comfort dish made with crispy bread, aromatic rice, juicy chicken shawarma, and creamy garlic sauce. We enriched the dish with toasted almonds and raisins, which added a special flavor and texture.

For dessert, we prepared mini baklava rolls made from thin phyllo pastry, filled with a mixture of three kinds of nuts, cinnamon, and oriental spices. The dessert impressed everyone with its crispiness and rich flavor.

Five participants from five different countries took part in the workshop: Sudan, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, and Canada. The diversity of participants gives our workshops a special meaning, as cooking becomes a space for connection, sharing stories, and intercultural dialogue.

While preparing the dishes, we talked about culinary traditions, everyday life, and the similarities between our cultures. Gatherings like these remind us that food connects people regardless of where we come from.

We organize these workshops at least once a month (sometimes twice, depending on participants’ interest).

If you live in Slovenia, are interested in different cultures and cuisines, and would like to enjoy a pleasant social gathering, we warmly invite you to join us. Contact us at: info@mkdia.org
