World Environment Day

Every year on 5 June, we celebrate World Environment Day, a global reminder that we have only one planet and that its future is in our hands. This important international day encourages reflection on humanity’s impact on the environment and highlights the responsibility of individuals, communities, and organizations to protect nature for future generations.

According to estimates, approximately seven million people die prematurely each year due to air pollution. In addition, the world continues to face growing environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution of water and soil, loss of biodiversity, and the overconsumption of natural resources. These challenges know no borders and affect the quality of life of people everywhere.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations in 1972 to raise awareness about environmental protection and promote sustainable practices. Today, it is one of the largest global platforms for environmental outreach, bringing together millions of people in a shared commitment to building a more sustainable world.

At Društvo Medkulturni dialog (Intercultural Dialogue Society), we believe that caring for the environment brings together people from different cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Protecting nature is not only an environmental issue but also a matter of mutual respect, solidarity, and responsibility for our common future.

Every individual can contribute to positive change. Reducing waste, conserving energy and water, using sustainable forms of transportation, planting trees, and making responsible consumption choices are simple actions that can have a significant impact when embraced collectively.

On World Environment Day, we invite you to take a small step for nature and contribute to a healthier, greener, and more connected world. Together, we can create an environment in which both present and future generations can thrive.

We have only one planet. Let’s take care of it together.
