Prešeren Hike Along the Cultural Heritage Trails in Žirovnica

On the morning of February 8th, as enthusiasts of intercultural dialogue, we set out on our journey and began the day with a Turkish breakfast at a rest stop near Kranj, which warmed us in the cold –8 degrees.

At 9:30 we started our walk along the cultural heritage trails of Žirovnica. Our first stop was the house of Matija Čop, a close friend of France Prešeren. At the entrance, we were welcomed by smiling locals offering honey cookies and free coffee. Inside, we watched a presentation on a large screen about the lives of the great Slovenians who once lived in Žirovnica. On the way out, we took photos with a nostalgic-style camera before continuing our journey.

We visited the Žirovnica Primary School, Anton Janša’s beehive, Plečnik’s monument, the house of Finžgar, the Church of St. Mark in Vrba, the historic linden tree in Vrba, and finally, the birthplace of France Prešeren.

There were 15 of us in total. In three and a half hours, we walked 11 kilometers. Although the day was very cold, we continued the tradition of the Prešeren Hike, which we started last year.

As the Intercultural Dialogue Society, we believe that by learning more about different cultures and fostering dialogue, we can better understand one another and respect each other’s values more deeply. A world where mutual respect prevails would undoubtedly be a more pleasant place to live.

We sincerely thank all participants and supporters. Thank you very much for joining us for this event. We hope to create many more beautiful events together in the future.
