World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day, observed on 20 November, is dedicated to respecting children’s rights, raising awareness of their needs, and encouraging the creation of a better world for all young people. On this day in 1959, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, followed in 1989 by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most important international document obliging countries to protect children’s dignity, safety, health, and development.

World Children’s Day reminds us that all children have the right to a safe home, education, play, carefree growing up, and to having their voices heard. It encourages us to reflect on the kind of environment we create for their dreams, curiosity, and future.

Let this day be an opportunity for each of us to contribute a small part to a kinder world — a world in which children are not only our future but are respected, protected, and heard today.
