Dialogue Talks in Bratislava

Ten days ago, on November 20th, we gathered for a meaningful edition of Dialogue Talks, dedicated to a topic that deeply shapes our societies: religion-based polarization. Our Intercultural Dialogue Association’s representative traveled to Bratislava for the first event in the series titled “Dialogue Talks.”

First in the series of events Dialogue Talks was held in Bratislava.

The conversation brought together participants from different backgrounds, cultures, and faith traditions, all eager to reflect, question, and better understand the role religion plays in our everyday lives.

Speakers at the event were Cenap Aydın, Doc. Jozef Žuffa, Doc. Pavol Bargár, PhD., Doc. Samuel Abrahám, PhD., and Dr. Szabolcs Nagypál, PhD.

Together, we explored key questions:

  • Can faith be both a source of peace and conflict?
  • Can people of different religions truly trust one another?
  • How does the media influence our perception of religion — does it unite or divide?
  • Why does the “us vs. them” mindset still persist?
  • And most importantly: Can religious diversity be seen as a strength rather than a threat?

The discussion was open, respectful, and rich with real-life experiences. Participants shared personal stories, challenged stereotypes, and reflected on moments where dialogue helped overcome fear or misunderstanding. What emerged was a shared belief that trust grows through conversation — when people meet, listen, and recognize each other’s humanity.

The event reminded us that social cohesion is not something given; it is something we all create together. And dialogue remains one of the most powerful tools we have.

We sincerely thank our partner organizations: Spoločná Cesta (Slovakia), Dialógus Platform Egyesület (Hungary), and Mozaiky Platform (Czech Republic) — for their cooperation and contribution to the discussion. We look forward to continuing these conversations at the next Dialogue Talks!
