“The Slovenian language is not something to be ashamed of because it is beautiful and flexible and not hidden in a corner.” (Primož Trubar)
Since 1992, Slovenia has celebrated Reformation Day on 31 October as a public holiday. The Reformation brought the first book, the first literary language, and the first mention of the term Slovenians to Slovenia.
In Slovenia, the movement was marked by Primož Trubar (1508-1586), a Protestant clergyman who sought to write books in a language that all Slovenians could understand. His orthographic manual “Abecedarium” and “Catechismus”, published in 1550, gave Slovenes the first books written in their language and the first books printed in Slovene.
From the first day of our founding, we have not given up our commitment to language and culture. It has always been one of our priorities to ensure that newcomers learn Slovenian and integrate into society by speaking the language.
As the Association for Intercultural Dialogue, we sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of the Slovenian Reformation Day.
