International World Children’s Day – 2017

Today we celebrate World Children’s Day. On November 20, 1959, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted, and 30 years later, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. Despite the emphasis on children’s rights, children are still being exploited as a labor force in Africa and elsewhere in the world, and we must not forget the example of 668 children in Turkey who were deprived of their right to freedom and wrongfully imprisoned. Regardless of the fact that the situation has improved in recent decades, we must nevertheless be aware that the situation is far from ideal, which is why it is necessary to regularly draw attention to any violations of children’s rights and to advocate for them.
