International Migrants Day

On the International Migrants Day, we reflect on the diversity of people who are part of our society. Migration is part of human history, and even today people come to Slovenia for many different reasons: for studies, work, love, personal growth, or new opportunities. Migrants are not a homogeneous group — they come from diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds and bring with them knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that enrich our shared space. It is important to see them as individuals, not through simplified notions or stereotypes.

On this day, it is especially important to highlight the role of intercultural dialogue. Dialogue means listening, respect, and a willingness to understand the other. Only through open conversation can we build trust, reduce fear of the unknown, and create a society where everyone has a place and a voice.

For many years, the Intercultural Dialogue Association in Slovenia has actively created opportunities for intercultural encounters. Through its activities, it connects local communities and migrants through cooking workshops, cultural events, shared meals, and public discussions. The aim of these activities is not only to learn about different cultures, but also to strengthen a sense of belonging and cooperation. We are glad to see people sharing stories and experiences with one another and building relationships that form the foundation of an inclusive society.

International Migrants Day therefore reminds us that inclusion is not a one-way process. It is a shared journey in which we learn from one another and together build a space where diversity, respect, and cooperation are everyday values.
