Intercultural Ramadan Iftar in Leše

Intercultural Ramadan Iftar in Leše – in the village of the family of astronaut Sunita Williams

On Saturday, March 7, we visited the village of Leše near Tržič, known for its beautiful view of the Julian Alps and also as the birthplace of the family of the American astronaut of Slovenian descent, Sunita Williams. This year we organized our intercultural Ramadan iftar there for the second time, bringing together around 60 local residents. The evening was also honored by the presence of the Slovenian Minister of Defence as a special guest.

The evening was marked by the spirit of Ramadan and International Women’s Day, which we celebrated together with the villagers over Turkish dishes, desserts, and tea. The program was enriched by performances from young participants, involving both Slovenian and Turkish children, through which we wished to symbolically support the younger generations and highlight the role of women in society.

The event was also covered by representatives of RTV Slovenija and local media from the Gorenjska region. Our sincere thanks to everyone who took part, helped organize the event, or attended it. See you again next year!
