European Day of Languages

Today, all across Europe, we celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and the importance of language learning for better understanding among people.

Multilingualism is one of the fundamental principles of the European Union. The EU has 24 official languages and more than 60 regional and minority languages, including Slovenian – an official language since 2004.

At the Intercultural Dialogue Association, we contribute to this diversity with a Slovenian language conversation club for foreigners, where we encourage more confident integration of non-native speakers into Slovenian society.

The European Day of Languages also reminds us of the importance of protecting minority and endangered languages – as part of the shared European cultural heritage.
