Under the guidance of our Russian volunteer Natalja, we prepared a traditional Russian dessert, Medovik (a honey cake with nuts). The participants gladly took part in the preparation, but even more meaningful was the time we spent together.

In a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, we then gathered around the table, where conversations, stories, and experiences from different cultures intertwined. Turkish tea and the Russian dessert created a truly special combination.

At the next workshop, led by our Egyptian volunteer, we will be preparing a dessert from Egyptian cuisine.

We organize workshops at least once a month (or twice if there is enough interest), depending on participants’ demand.

We organized another intercultural cooking workshop at the premises of our Intercultural Dialogue Association. On January 28, in the late afternoon, we came together, put on our aprons, and got to work in the kitchen under the guidance of our volunteers.

This time, too, in the spirit of intercultural dialogue, we prepared one savory and one sweet dish from traditional Turkish cuisine. On the menu were vegetarian bulgur balls with yogurt and a pumpkin dessert with tahini and walnuts.

Intercultural cooking workshops are a regular part of our association’s activities, as we organize them at least once a month. These gatherings provide a great opportunity to socialize while preparing food, while also creating space for intercultural exchange.

Together, we also set the table and, once the cooking is done, reward ourselves with the delicious dishes we have prepared.

As part of the project “My Path – Raising Awareness in the Host Society about Migration Issues”, we also visited Novo mesto, more specifically the Home for the Elderly, where we carried out a cooking workshop in cooperation with the Association for the Development of Voluntary Work Novo mesto (DRPDNM).

In addition to our team, which prepared two Turkish specialties for the event, Ukrainian, Nepali, and Palestinian dishes were also cooked for the residents of the Novo mesto Home for the Elderly.

This time, our volunteers decided to prepare vegetarian bulgur balls, Fellah Köftesi, and a pumpkin dessert, Kabak Tatlisi.

On the occasion of Migrants’ Day, which we marked last week, we had the opportunity—within the framework of the project—to speak about our migration experiences and to engage in intercultural dialogue. Approximately one hundred people attended the event.

We would like to thank the Association for the Development of Voluntary Work Novo mesto. We look forward to future collaborations as well!

In December, it’s potica time!

At our latest intercultural cooking workshop, we prepared a traditional walnut filled potica. In the spirit of intercultural dialogue, we tried something different this time and baked a Slovenian specialty that no festive Slovenian table can be without.

Under the mentorship of Damjana Golob Lavrič, participants from Slovenia, Serbia, Russia, and Türkiye ground the walnuts and kneaded the dough.

When the potica was baked, we sat down together at the table and enjoyed the warm slices with some Turkish tea.

This week we organized the last intercultural cooking workshop in collaboration with Cene Štupar Public Institute for this season.

The event was, as always, well attended and received. Our volunteers first presented the dishes on the daily menu, and then the work behind the counters and stoves began in the professional kitchen at the premises of Cene Štupar.

This time we prepared tantuni yufka with yogurt and meat, and a dessert called kemalpaşa, made with milky custard.

At each workshop, we prepare one savory and one sweet dish. After successfully working together in the kitchen, we always gather around the table and enjoy the treats, that are the result of our combined efforts.

This past Wednesday, we held, what we can already call, a traditional culinary workshop in collaboration with the Cene Štupar Public Institute.

Every workshop welcomes new participants. As usual, our volunteers first presented the dishes on the menu, and then we combined our efforts in the professional kitchen in the premises of Cene Štupar Institute.

At each workshop, we prepare one of the traditional Turkish savory dishes and salad. Last but certainly not least, there are sweet desserts and Turkish tea at the final tasting.
